In addition to his academic credentials, he is also a registered Professional Engineer (mining engineering, Alaska) and Mine Foreman (Alabama).

Dr. Bandopadhyay's expertise include mine planning and optimization, neural networks, mine ventilation planning and design, including open pit ventilation and fugitive dust mitigation, arctic mining, and characterization of energy materials.

Daniel E. Walsh, P.E. is Emeritus Professor of Mineral Preparation Engineering at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and a registered professional mining engineer in the State of Alaska. For six years (2006-2012), he served on the State of Alaska Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors, a board member of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). He is presently a consultant to the national and international mineral industry. His engineering and research interests span a broad range of mineral processing applications, including project economic evaluation, comminution, precious metals recovery, gravity concentration, plant design, coal cleaning & utilization, and rare earth minerals.
